Copy Editing and Proofreading Services
Hi, I’m Michelle, and I’d like to be your next editor — or maybe your first!
I offer reasonably priced copy editing and proofreading services backed by a decade in independent publishing. I’ve edited several Amazon bestsellers in their genre. I also have 10 years of experience in writing and editing for newspapers in two countries.
My goal is to make your text as polished and tight as it can be while preserving your authorial voice. Never worked with an editor before? No worries, I’ll guide you through the process and make sure you’re comfortable every step of the way.
My rates are in accordance with the Editorial Freelancers Association’s suggested rates, but I realize that many authors, especially first-time authors, aren’t exactly rolling in dough, so for that reason, I do offer installment plans to clients on a budget.
Are you looking for a copy editor or proofreader to help you with an LGBTQ+ story? As a proud lesbian, I take an extra special pleasure in working with LGBTQ+ authors and/or helping stories with LGBTQ+ protagonists shine.
Scroll to the bottom to see the long list of women-loving-women books I’ve edited. I also edit enjoy editing fiction with gay male and transgender protagonists.
Copy Editing
I’ll check your manuscript for grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors.
But that’s just the beginning.
I’ll also help you improve awkwardly written sentences and identify issues you might have missed after a self-edit, including repetitive words or phrases and logical/factual errors. I’ll point out if your main character’s eyes are blue in one chapter but green in another. If your writing has graphs, tables, illustrations, or the like, I’ll check that the fonts, margins, and text sizes are logical and consistent.

Proofreading
Proofreading is the absolute last stage of editing — once you’re satisfied that your work is ready for publication.
I’ll root out any remaining typos and formatting errors in your text. At this stage, I assume all the wording in the manuscript is the way you want it, so I don’t suggest rewording or look for logical flaws as I would during a copy edit.
Some authors choose to pay only for a proofread because that’s all that they can afford, which is completely understandable. For this reason, I also offer a 2-for-1 package: a copy edit followed by a reduced-cost proofread.
